At six in the morning, one traveller is stepping onto a glass walkway high above the Andaman Sea while the limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay take shape below. Another is still asleep in a villa a few steps from the sand in Khao Lak, with nothing planned except the sea. Both chose well.
Choosing between the two phang nga hotels in the Beyond collection comes down to one question, should the trip be built around dawn over the bay, or around long, slow afternoons on the beach? That is the whole decision. Most of the other details follow from it.
A Clifftop Made for First Light
Beyond Skywalk Nangshi sits in the hills above the bay, roughly 210 metres from the Samet Nangshe viewpoint, about two minutes on foot. It belongs to the group’s Mountain-series, and nearly everything about it faces the sunrise. Guests choose from sea-view tents, forest tents, sea-view pavilions, family sea-view villas, and two-bedroom pool villas, spread across 58 rooms in eight categories.
The property is named for its centrepiece, a glass skywalk reported at about 180 metres long and 80 metres above the sea. It opens at 06:00 and closes at 19:00. Meals at Horizon Restaurant keep the bay in front of diners, and the property notes a Halal certificate for its dining.
It is a small place with a narrow focus. Its best moment comes early, and the rest of the day is quieter by comparison.
Two Stays Side by Side
On paper the two properties barely overlap, which makes them easy to compare.

A table settles the facts. It does not settle what matters to the person booking.
Which Hour Matters More to You
If the sunrise is the reason for the trip, the clifftop wins easily. If the reason is rest, the beach does.
Most comparisons of Phang Nga hotels line up amenities and room sizes, which misses how differently these two places use the day. A photographer who cares about the moment the light reaches the islands gains little from a villa in Khao Lak, however large. A couple on their honeymoon who mainly want unhurried days and a private pool would find a 05:30 alarm a strange way to spend their trip.
By mid-morning, the skywalk guests are lingering over breakfast with the bay still in view. Sixty-odd kilometres away, the tide in Khao Lak has barely turned. Picking a hotel here is really picking which of those two mornings to wake up to.
